Election 2004: No Matter Who Wins, We Lose

Virginia, tell us your election day trauma.

On Nov.2, an unprecedented amount of people in this country are going to wade through the lines at their local polling station, close the curtain behind them and make a choice. Maybe you’ll vote for Kerry, maybe you’ll go for Bush, maybe you’ll write in Snoop Dogg for President. Maybe you’ll just stand there and scream.

No one knows what’s going to happen, but we’re already seeing a replay of the 2000 election debacle: disenfranchisement of minority voters, poll intimidation and harassment, flat out lies and low-down dirty tricks. More than likely, a court battle will play out for the months ahead to decide the victor. Yet again, we’ll be left wondering what happened to this country’s so-called democracy?

Either way, come Wednesday Nov. 3, we’ll still be poor, at war and misrepresented by a bunch of rich white guys. In Richmond, the story is slightly more interesting. We have a new form of government coming to power, but will this new government help any one other than the powers that be? Are you as confused as us? Feel like throwing up? Going to buy a one-way ticket out of the country? Is this country the opposite of everything you were told it was?

Vent your frustrations. Report on your poll station stories. Talk about what you are going to do after you vote. Tell us where you are going to be when the shit goes down. Use our comments feature. Make this story your story.
