Earning a community

I want to contribute a few points to the dialogue that Sam Sadler urged in Residence Life’s decision to not implement a six-day work week for housekeepers. As reported in Morgan Figa’s article in this issue, Sadler claims that he “want[s] to explore as a community? the questions that the proposed schedule change has raised. Now, “community? is a powerful word, and the right to use it must be earned. There are two unacknowledged obstacles in doing so at the College.

Confirmed: ‘Wyatt Earp’ losing War in Iraq

Is anyone surprised? When first we heard the simplistic binary logic of “wanted dead or alive? or “you're either with us or with the terrorists? and “mission accomplished? (no connection to the real world whatsoever); WE KNEW IT WOULD BE A DISASTER. Many intelligent articles were written at that time sounding a warning, testifying to the fact – peruse this site and read for yourselves! But let’s not stop with the above lest it HAPPEN AGAIN; the moronic comment of Wolfowitz, that the Iraqi people would welcome invaders with “bouquets of flowers?, signals either total lunacy or the worst criminal liar of all time? Not to be outdone by Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld offers his ‘poetry of insanity’ for idiots and Americans, quatrains of pathology expressed in the ‘known-unknown-knowns’ of criminal deception. Not to be excluded from the unadulterated INSANITY and INCOMPETENCE is the war-whore herself, Condoleezza (status quo) Rice, of Lebanon infamy who believes that peace equates with war!

Housekeeping Rally Opens Discussion

The Tidewater Labor Support Committee held a rally for workers’ rights this past Wednesday at the Crim Dell Meadow. The rally was a response to a move by the Residence Life office to extend Housekeeping Services for residents to include a half day of service on Saturdays. As of the time of the rally, Residence Life had scrapped its plans to implement the new six day service plan in January.

Breaking Oz with News

Fiji prepares for Oz invasion by leaving blackhawk helicopters on its beaches. A kava intoxicated Commodore Frank Bullawayo has once again forgotten his coup deadline and Australia's Minister of Defence, Dr Brendan (studs) Nelson, faces hostile relatives over the latest cover-ups and military fiascos! Well done, ‘studs’, the record of Robert (suck harder) Hill will soon be under threat.

Residence Life backs down from six-day work week for housekeepers

This week, Residence Life decided not to implement a new schedule for the College’s housekeeping staff. The plan that was originally supposed to be put into effect Jan. 16 set up a rotating series of shifts to cover residence halls Monday through Saturday. One group of housekeepers would work the current, full day schedule, Monday through Friday. The other group would work the regular full schedule Monday through Thursday, and work only half days on Friday and Saturday. The groups would alternate between the Saturday hours.

Commentary :: Globalization

The Downside of ‘Liberation Democracy’

A recent study highlighting the rapid expansion of organised criminal activity in those areas where NATO and the U.S. have engaged in aggressive military intervention offers further evidence of the lasting negative social consequences of foreign occupation by neo-colonial powers. As corporate driven America attempts to assert its dominance over weaker nations, organised crime, quick to exploit traumatised societies, becomes the principal beneficiary in the 'war against terror' and the spread of ‘democracy, liberty’ and free market capitalism – what is good for capitalist America is even better for a crime boss!

Commentary :: Globalization

The New Breed

A recent news report detailing the effects of Globalisation – western economic/military expansionism by any other name – and the explosion of organised criminal activity in the Balkans was aired today on ABC Radio Australia. The primary item of interest dealt with the negative impact that Western Europe, including the UK, is experiencing as a result of the activities of Albanian, Turkish, Bosnian, Bulgarian and Serbian criminal syndicates. According to the report NATO’s intervention and the subsequent elimination of traditional regulatory forces and authorities in the region has facilitated the “explosion?.
