We Will Not Be Intimidated

Events of the last week make it clear that students' right to dissent from the war, and from the recruitment taking place on our campuses, remains in question. At three different colleges in the last week -- Holyoke Community College, George Mason University, and UW-Madison -- students engaging in peaceful counter-recruitment were met with police repression. At Holyoke and George Mason, students face ongoing charges from the school or the state. The ability of the student movement to grow, and to continue to challenge our schools' role in recruiting for the war, will depend on our defending our own right to dissent.

Pakistani-American Student/Former Air Force Service Member Assaulted, Arrested for Protesting Military Recruiters

Tariq, a student at George Mason University and former Air Force service member, was assaulted by Police and an ROTC member while protesting marine recruiters. An ROTC member ripped off and threw away a sign Tariq was wearing, and police were seen choking the peaceful student protestor, who is also former Air Force service member.

I have been thinking for a while now that the Democrats really should sit down and consider changing their mascot from a donkey to a marmot. A rodent really is more emblematic or their provincial habits than a donkey could ever be.

Diverse Anti-war Protests Largest in DC Since Vietnam

Washington, DC, Sep 25 - Kicking off three days of actions aimed ultimately at pressuring the US government to pull troops out of Iraq, scores of protesters converged on Washington, DC yesterday for an all-day protest that included an array of speakers, a march past the White House and a concert that lasted well into the early morning hours. Estimates of the demonstration’s size ranged from 100,000 to 300,000 protesters.

SAUDIS: Anti-War Protests Gather Storm in Europe & US

LONDON, 25 September 2005 — Over 100,000 protesters took to the streets of central London yesterday in yet another demonstration against the war in Iraq. The route not surprisingly took in Whitehall, Parliament Square, along Piccadilly before reaching Hyde Park, with a motley of campaigners shouting “Down with Downing Street, “ and “Stop the bombings? as they passed No 10 Downing Street.
