Discrimination suits

RICHMOND - Two African-Americans filed separate lawsuits against Waffle House restaurants in Hopewell and Fredericksburg Wednesday in federal court in Richmond, alleging racial discrimination. The lawsuits were announced by a group called the the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights during a press conference at the Richmond Omni Hotel.

Bush holds stead lead in Virginia

RICHMOND — President George Bush has a steady – but not overwhelming – lead over Sen. John F. Kerry in Virginia, according to a new poll.

Bush led Kerry, 49 percent to 43 percent, in a survey of 625 registered Virginia voters conducted Friday through Monday by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. All participants in the poll said they plan to vote in the presidential election.

Seven percent of voters were undecided in the poll.

Mountaintop removal subject of protest
