YORKTOWN RALLY FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
TO COUNTER HATE RALLY OF NSM/KKK

YORKTOWN, VA - On Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2005, the Center for Education Rights (CER) is hosting the Yorktown Rally for Social Justice at the Yorktown National Battlefield at Colonial National Historical Park in Yorktown, Virginia.

The Yorktown Rally for Social Justice will be a family-friendly, non-confrontational, peaceful, educational, and entertaining gathering as a community-based response in opposition to a hate rally of the National Socialist Movement (NSM), a neo-nazi organization (and their guests from the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, and other hate groups) that will be occurring about a mile away within the park on that same afternoon.

According to Phil Stinson, president of CER, “The Center for Education Rights is a non-profit educational advocacy organization dedicated to facilitating innovative responses to civil rights issues.? Stinson says, “It is our strong belief that when given logistical support and infrastructure, any community of neighbors will join together in peaceful and non-confrontational opposition to a hate rally, and that is why we are hosting the Yorktown Rally for Social Justice.?

Musicians performing at the Yorktown Rally for Social Justice include Ben Arnold, BurnDown All-Stars, Nadine Goellner, The Mia Johnson Band, Margot MacDonald, Scooter Scudieri, and Seed Is.

CER is currently seeking community leaders and activists from the Tidewater, Virginia, area to speak at the Yorktown Rally for Social Justice. Interested persons may contact CER at rally4socialjustice (at) gmail.com.

Last year, CER successfully hosted the Valley Forge Rally for Social Justice at Valley Forge National Historical Park as a community-based response in opposition to a hate rally of the NSM and KKK in Valley Forge. The Valley Forge Rally for Social Justice was created after Stinson’s fifteen year-old son called his attention to a newspaper article about the NSM hate rally, and said, “Well, Dad, what are YOU going to do about it?? With a small grant from the Southern Poverty Law Center, CER organized and hosted the Valley Forge Rally for Social Justice on just a few weeks’ notice. Stinson says, “We are confident that the Yorktown Rally for Social Justice will build on the success of last year’s Rally for Social Justice in Valley Forge.?

The Yorktown Rally for Social Justice is on Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Yorktown National Battlefield at Colonial National Historical Park in Yorktown, Virginia, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gates open at Noon, rain or shine, and admission is free.
