LOCAL Announcement :: Labor & Class

Labor Action Alert regarding new development at 1900 West Cary St

The development going in at Meadow and West Cary in the Fan area of Richmond is using sub-standard labor practices according to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters. Please take action. The sign says loft apartments and storefront businesses are going in at this low-come intersection. However, we are already seeing how this development is not intended to benefit the surrounding community. Please send these developers a message and call "East West Partners" at 804-739-3800.
SHAME ON EAST WEST PARTNERS
for Desecration of the American Way of Life

East West Partners at 1900 West Cary Street hired J.A. Heisler Contracting, Inc, who subcontracted work to T.A. Masetti Carpentry and Drywall on West Cary Street. The Mid-Atlantinc Regional Council of Carpenters has a labor dispute with T.A. Masetti Carpentry and Drywall for contributing to the erosion of area standards for local carpenters, including providing full family health care and pensions for all of its carpenter craft employees.

The Mid-Atlantinc Regional Council of Carpenters objects to substandard wage employers like T.A. Masetti Carpentry and Drywall working in the community. In our opinion, the community ends up paying the tab for employee health care and the low wages paid lower the general community wage standards, thereby encouraging crime and other social ills.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters believes that T.A. Masetti Carpentry and Drywall has an obligation to the community to do all it can to see that area labor standards are met for the development of the East West Partners building at 1900 West Cary Street. While the work may be completed, East West Partners' obligation does not end.

Please call 804-739-3800 and tell East West Partners that you want to see them do all they can to change this situation and see that area labor standards are met in the construction of their building.

We have a labor dispute with all of these parties. We are appealing only to the public - the consumer. We are not seeking to induce any person to cease work or refuse to make deliveries.
