Local Abortion Rights Group Looks Towards 2006

Hello Friends and Supporters of the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project,

Over the last year, we have provided funding for a dozen individuals across Virginia and contributed to others across the nation as part of our work with the National Network of Abortion Funds. Members of RRFP also drove several folks to and from their abortion procedures across the state and DC. RRFP has been collaborating with area activists to create visibility and awareness around issues of access to reproductive health. As we embark on another eventful year, we invite you to work with us to further reproductive justice in our area and beyond.
More funding means that more people can pay for their abortion, so there are several creative and eclectic fundraisers in the works. Our first of the year will be a “Valentine’s Day? Dinner on February 11th. Tickets are available for $40/individuals and $60/duos. This fabulous event will take place at Harrison Street Coffee Shop near VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. There will be hors d’oeurves, a three-course meal, cash bar, live music, and a chance to mingle with other supporters of reproductive rights from Richmond. All money goes directly to funding abortion! If you are interested in attending and would like an invitation, please email us at rrfp (at) riseup.net!!!

If you cannot attend the dinner, please consider making a contribution to RRFP’s abortion fund or volunteering to help us with future events! If you’d like to volunteer with the RRFP, email us at rrfp (at) riseup.net with volunteer in the subject line. We would be delighted to have dedicated activists join our team!

There is new merchandise on our website including sweatshop free t-shirts and pins to convey your support for our work. You will also find tons of information regarding reproductive health laws and services in Virginia. Check it out at www.rrfp.net.

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, which bars the usage of Medicaid funds to pay for abortion services. RRFP is actively working to repeal this law in order to secure access to reproductive services for every individual seeking them in Virginia and the United States. Join us as we begin an exciting year full of promise for self-determination and access for everyone!

Many thanks,
Christie, Jen, Lindsey, and Quillin
