Despite persistent rain councilman Sa'ad El-Amin spoke to a crowd of 40 at a memorial for Gabriel Prosser, an 18th century African slave who planned a massive uprising against the Virginia plantation system. Historians speculate that Prosser's plan would have been succesful if it had not been for a massive fall thunder storm that swept through the city. He was executed on Oct 10,1800 and his remains reside in a cement grave under the pavement of a downtown parking garage. El-Amin is moving to have Richmond City Councilpass an ordinance to honor Gabriel and recognize his contribution to history.

"Gabriel was hanged, demonized & criminalized for seeking freedom," said El-Amin, chairman of the slave trails commision, "We would like to use the date of his execution to commemorate Gabriel and lift the veil of defamation of a freedom fighter and patriot."

While El-Amin spoke at the site where Gabriel's planned for the rebellion a small band of white supremacists gathered to protest. Among them was Ron Dogget, a well known racist activist, who has been a longtime supporter of David Duke.
