Richmond Tax "Relief" Relief Protest: A Faith-Based Initiative

On September 19, 2001, there will be a public meeting to protest the Bush tax cut. A grassroots network of Richmonders will bring their tax rebates or copies of them. Participants will publicly announce their opposition by signing a letter of protest to President Bush, and declaring their willingness to sign over their rebate to the charity of their choice. The purpose will be to send a message to the White House that we will not support tax cuts that favor the rich while endangering social programs for the poor, environmental programs, and Social Security. Media will be welcomed.

UPCOMING WILLIAMSBURG TEACH-IN: Ending Global Apartheid: A Teach-In for Action on the IMF and World Bank

On Friday, September 21, a diverse coalition of organizations will be hosting a teach-in entitled "Ending Global Apartheid" at the College of William and Mary. The Teach-In has been designed to give you and others from your church, organization, school or union the knowledge necessary to take effective action against the IMF and the World Bank when they hold their their Joint Annual General Meeting in Washington, DC on September 29 and 30.

The Teach-In will feature speakers from organizations in the Third World who will discuss the effects of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank on their respective countries and constituencies. Confirmed speakers include Aggripina Mosha of the Tanzania Gender Networking Programme and Jose Ricardo of the Brazilian Landless Workers’ Movement (MST).

The program begins at 6pm and is expected to last approximately three hours, including time for the speakers to answer questions from the audience. For more details about this event, please read the full article.
